There's a bunch of reasons the sniffer may not work. These include:
- Firewall/virus/etc blocking StationRipper.exe from running or opening ports (try disabling and trying, making sure to re-enable when done)
- For the old sniffer - Proxy isn't configured correctly - look at this for more information.
- .NET 3.0 isn't installed - get it here
- For the SmartStationSniffer, try running the application as Admin. If it still won't run, when running as Admin go to the Help menu and click Register SmartStationSniffer and re-try
Here's some ways to track down what's going on, and some info to send to us if you're having problems:
- If it looks like it's recording, but you aren't seeing the files and are running Vista, then this is the likely problem.
- If it looks like it's recording, but not showing all files (0/30 or something like that), click the "?" next to "Force to Podcast" on the main StationRipper window - what kind of info does it have? If it says that it's a duplicate, that means it's already got it, and isn't including it in the finished count.
- Go to View->Options, Advanced tab and check "Show StationRipper console". Re-start the sniffer. You should see a black window open with some info. If you don't, then you likely need .NET. If you do, try to play something that it can record, with whatever browser is configured to use the sniffer. What kind of info does the black window have in it?
- If the black window doesn't have anything beyond the initial info (e.g., nothing about recording or copying files), then your browser probably isn't configured correctly to use the Sniffer. Look at this for more information.
- Take a look at View->Log - this will have detailed info about what StationRipper things is happening.
A lot of the time, you'll be able to see what's going on from the above info.
If none of this helped, fill out a
Support Request and we will help you figure out what the problem is.
PLEASE include as much of the above info as you can (what the black sniffer window says, the info "?" shows, etc).
