when i try to rip this station....

this is the error i get...Ripper 0 () reported a error: HTTP:403 -Access Forbidden (try changing the User Agent)........i have ripped that station before and my friend is ripping it rite now on his pc...how do i change the user angent? thank you for your help

Hmm... I just tried that stream and didn't get the error. 

When you go to it, is the URL you're getting http://68.163.70.225:8000 or http://66.54.67.131:8380?

Try it again and let me know if you have a problem still. While you can't currently change the user agent, it shouldn't be a problem in StationRipper.

this is the url i'm getting...http://66.54.67.131:8380? and it gives me that error everytime...i noticed that when i go to the next page on shoutcast the same station is there but with a lower bitrate...and i can rip that one? does that have anything to do with it? thank you for responding

That's really odd - I've got no idea what's going on, as it works on both the original version and the newest. 

You might give the new 1.10 beta version a try http://www.ratajik.com/StationRipper/release/StationRipperIn st_1.05-RC1.exe. (That's a test version, that should be released this week at some point.  Look here for more info).

Once you get that version, try to go to the Station - if you still get the error, go to the view->log menu.  Copy the log info and paste it here, and lets see if we can figure out what's going on.

i got the 1.10 version and its still doing the same thing..i tried copying the log but it wont let me...it says copy to clip board ..where is the clip board lol ..im lame lol but thanks for helping lol ..but its still doing the same thing

You can try running this (Start->Run, Paste this in and hit OK):

Also, what's the date on "C:\Program Files\Ratajik Software\StationRipper\StationRipperConsole.exe"? If you're running the beta version, it should be today. 

Sorry you're having trouble.  Just to see what happens, do you have another machine you could try it on? (Or was that how your friend was ripping).

i did what u said but im still haveing the same problem...:(  i cant find the date of the program ..this sucks lol i can download the same station but with a lower bitrate...but the songs come out really muddy...pleaseeeee help me lol..thanks...by the way yes my friends rips the same station and he has no problems...

I found your sweet little app last weekend, and man I've got to say, you are a goddamn genius! I love this thing. I just downloaded the beta version and will be glad to help "test" it.

I am getting the same sort of errors on a couple different stations, all of which were ripping just fine last weekend.

The error reads: "Ripper 2 reported a error: HTTP:403 - Access forbidden..."

Hi everyone....this is the owner of Urbansoulnation. I'll be happy to answer your question as to why he is getting the forbidden message. Its because I ban rippers from accessing my stream when I catch them.

Why do I do this? I pay big money for a cd quality pipeline so people can ENJOY the music...not steal it. Heck if i wanted for people to just download the music I would just leave my computer on some filesharing service...but thats not alot of fun...which is why i started the radio station. Additionally, it takes up extra bandwidth  from people who just want to log in and acually LISTEN to the station.

I talk with other internet station broadcasters and this is a pretty common practice to ban the ip addresses coming from Freeamps and the like. So unless you want to end up on everyones ban lists...

I agree with  Joseph.  I too have an internet station.  I've been banning rippers for quite some time.  It's just not right.  I'd rather have 5 real listeners than 200 people who  set thier rippers to rip my stream each morning before they go to work.  It really stinks.  Not to mention we pay licensing fees based on TLH (total listening hours) That's right we are paying for your time connected to our servers!

I also ban and deal with rippers on a daily basis. Its just not right. We fight enough to stay online and you try and give us a by ripping our stations and giving the RIAA one more god damn thing to bitch about with online webscasting...

I'm hoping a couple of the new features going in the next version will help reduce some problems for stations - time limits and download limits.  Download limits will have StationRipper stop after X K has been ripped.   Time limits will restrict StationRipper from ripping during certain parts of the day.  For example, I normally run it only during the early morning (like 1 AM - 5 AM). 
 
The version after this one should have "Smart Recording" Enabled.  One thing I've always been annoyed with other Rippers is they rip the same thing over and over again.  This seems like a huge waste (on both ends of the connection).  I believe I've come up with a way to record the song the first time, and then only the first few seconds and the last few seconds after that point, which should end up, over time, massively reducing the amount and one ripper is ripping.
 
I have a question for the broadcasters - do you think there could be some kind of middle ground here?  I could extend the idea of time limits to be station-specific.  That is, we could establish a public registry of stations and the times the stations broadcasts allow ripping (like 2-6 AM local to that station). Rippers could look at that info and record only during that period.  I don't believe it would be hard to develop the public registry (and I'd be willing to do it), if this would help.

Thinking, Thinking, NO! We work hard to bring our exclusive content. WHy don't you go out and get off your BUTT and buy the $12+ CD just like the other broadcasters? Yea that's what I thought, boils all down to money and what your doing is blatently illegal! Actually we have your IP address we COULD in theory report you to your ISP for illegal activity and have your butt suspended.

The point is, they are ripping music off our stations, aka illegally obtaining a sound recording. Most webcasters such as myself spend hundreds of dollars a week, and thousands a year to provide the latest or most enjoyable music to our listener base..

So while you may think this is all good for you, where does it leave webcasters? Left to pay the bill? I don't think so. I have enough damn bills and regardless its illegal.

If we WANT listeners to be able to have an archive of x sound recording of maybe a show, then we will release it ourselves, on our own time.

Until the DMCA changes, this is not a consumers "right". If it is, then i have a "right" to sue them for lost profits.

Let alone, we make deals with indie artists that we will play their music and ensure it doesen't get downloaded illegaly. Support the god damn artists and stop ripping everyone off.

station ripper, and started using it, I thought the record industry
would not sit well with it. And I guess the webcasters don't like it

well, i thought it was  "right". isnt it? i can record off tv/radio/whatever as long is its for me.  i can see why people doing stations get upset about the extra megs being downloaded, but from what i've heard there's nothing illegal in it, as long its for personal use (no p2p!)

well, as far as that goes, wouldn't the same hold true from radio stations? or tivo off the tv? i know broadcasters only want people to use their stuff in the way they intended, but a lot of times people have other ideas.  and if you live in the usa, isn't this ok?

House with 9 family members, consisting of 7 children (youngest 10) and 5 computers on network. One newer XP, the balance older computers to help kids do homework, email,  and Web surfing (cable broadband). The kids enjoyed tuning into "Shoutcast" and listen to music while doing homework. After homework they stay tuned in and play there Gameboys / play while enjoying the music. Have always been very appreciative of the folks (Shoutcast broadcasters) who gave of there time and money for so little in return. It did not take a mathematician to see the "hours" of stream time a week coming into the house.. easily 30 to 50 hours per week. Looking at our listening preference we decided on the following. Once every 3 months a (7) hour record session of one of the "Top 40 POP Rock streams".  We do enjoy a little country, so one (7) hour record session every 6 months. The kids create playlist(s) and listen to music locally from our local network and no longer stream in. We reduced our "streamtime" from 30 to 50 hours a week to 42 hours of stream time a year (6 sessions x 7 hours). We do not sell or make copies of this music. It is for our household use only. We do buy about 10 CD's a year to fill in the gaps. From a legal / ethical view, I was told recording "open to the public type broadcasts" was legal for private use. This included TV, radio, and internet. If your views (broadcasters) differ I would most certainly respect them. I have ONLY one question to ask, since we wish to continue to use your service......
Would you prefer we "downstream 30 to 50 hours per week" (?).
Would you prefer we "downstream and record 42 hours per year" (?).
As far as "content mix / variety " it is about the same... since "Top of the chart" music hits change very slowing.
So... respecting your wishes, would you choose how our family uses your services.
