BlogRipper - Beta 1.0 (1/12/06)
This is a BETA of a version of
StationRipper that will record, to start, radio.blog.club. There's
a decent chance the site will break this beta soon. If so, I will
either the software or bail on the idea. I did this HACK very
quickly tonight - saw it on digg and
just kinda flowed into it.
Here are some screen shots of it running
To use:
- Download the beta
here.
- Install StationRipper, and then run
it.
- Go through the intro screens until
you just seen the main portal window
- Click on "CLICK HERE" on the "Click
here for Radio.blog.club TEST" line.
- Radio.blog.club's web page will
come up.
- Type a artist or song name in the
search field
- A list of blogs that have that song
will come up. Click on the name.
- StationRipper will download ALL the
songs on that blog. Yeah, I know, there needs to be a way to
select songs. That will be coming up...
Possible PROBLEMS and ways around them:
- No Files Downloading? This is a rip
of my Podcast download stuff. For users safety, there's a set
list of files that will be downloaded (so they won't just get EXE's,
as many people would just run them then yell at me). To
download any file type (AT YOUR OWN RISK) go to the view menu, click
on Options, then the "Podcast" tab. Uncheck the "Valid Media"
list. Re-start the record (right click and "pause", then right
click "resume"
- "I'm sorry, but I appear to already
be recording that Station". That just means you've already
started recording the exact same URL (So if you search for "Paul Van
Dyke" and a blog has 5 PVD songs, you'll see all 5 - click any of
them starts the record, clicking gives the above error
- "Podcast feed waiting for
updates" - This either means it couldn't find any files to
download (probably a bug on my part), or it's downloaded all the
songs. If it has everything, it will look every 20 mins for
new files - if it finds new, it will download the new files.
- A LOT of the files are RBS files.
I am, for now, renaming them to MP3. Don't like it, rename
them back. iTunes seems to like them if they are named MP3, so
I'm going with that for now.
- WATCH YOUR BANDWIDTH! I'm download
11 at once right now, at it's peeking at 630k a second.
StationRipper will pretty much nail any available bandwidth (no
throttle right now).
- The play lists's vary a bit on
pathing - I think I've got it, but November have missed a few. Let
me know the URL to the the file (what you see on the StationRipper
URL window, next to add, when you click on a URL).
- If you have a problem with it
starting the "Podcast" recorder, click the "Force to Podcast" link
in the main window.
You can, of course, still record
Shoutcast streams and Podcasts with this version.
If people like this, I November keep in it
StationRipper, as it lets it record shoutcast, podcast, and now new
kinds of XML (beyond podcasts). Or it November end up in it's own app.

Like it? Want to support it? Please Buy
a copy of StationRipper. There is NO GUARANTEE that this new
blogripper aspect will stay in, but if enough people sign up, I November
pursue it.
