Here's a quick intro on how to get StationRipper and Last.fm working together.

If you have issues, please take a look here

Overview

The basic steps to get this going are:

  1. Get Last.fm, under Internet Explorer, playing on the external player
  2. Set up StationRipper with your user info
  3. Bring up Last.fm site inside of StationRipper, and click to play a Station (This will start recording).

Detailed setup list

The above is very simple once you know what to do. Here's a more detailed list

Make sure Last.fm is set up:

  1. If you haven’t already, download from here: http://www.last.fm/download. You don't actually NEED the Scrobler plugin, but this installer also installs the player.
  2. Install and configure it. Do whatever plugins you want, but make sure your login info is correct.
  3. Bring up IE
  4. Go to http://last.fm
  5. Login
  6. Click on the down arrow next to your name (top right), and click "Settings".
  7. Click on the "Web Site Tab"
  8. Under "Playback options", select "Play music in the Last.fm software".
  9. Click on “Radio” on the top toolbar.
  10. I assume you have some stations you’ve listened to. Under “Your Recent Stations”, click on one. If not, create a station.
  11. Say “yes” to any warnings.
  12. The Last.fm player should come up and start playing that station.

Set up StationRipper:

  1. Bring up StationRipper
  2. Go to View->Options, and click on the Last.fm tab.
  3. Click the Add button, and enter your username and password. Click ok and then click ok.
  4. At this point, StationRipper is ready to record.

To record in StationRipper(Recommended way):

  1. Click on “Last.fm Site” on left nav bar.
  2. Click on Radio on the top bar on the last.fm site.
  3. Click play on a recent Station
  4. Select your user ID, and click ok
  5. The station will start recording.
  6. You can record any station, and any number of songs. The only limit is you can only record one station at a time per ID (last.fm limitation). If you want to record more than one at a time, set up multiple userids on Last.fm and the StationRipper Last.fm tab, and select different ones when you start recording.

Alternative ways of recording:

  1. Each Last.fm station has a URL. It will look something like lastfm://globaltags/rock. You can copy that URL from the web site and paste into StationRipper (next to the add button), and then click add
  2. Once you have recorded a Last.fm station once, you can go to StationRipper and click on the MyStations button at the top. You can then pick any station you’ve record, again.
  3. On the StationPortal site, inside of StationRipper, there’s a Last.fm stations link. Click on that to see what stations are known, and then click the record button to record.
