Sorry if this topic has already been covered but I could not find it in a search.

I have been able to successfully rip mp3s off Pandora but the files will not play on my mp3 player. I have tried on a Sansa clip, Ipad and my Samsung phone with no luck. They all say format not supported. Is there a setting that I am missing in the options? If not can anyone recommend a software that can do a batch conversion to playable files.

Thanks!

I'd suggest getting BonkEnc and re-encoding the files to .mp3.

BonkEnc is available here -> http://bonkenc.org
You probably will need to install the MP3 Plug-in, available here -> http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-libraries.php (Note - change the name of "lame_enc.dll" to "BladeEnc.dll", drop it in the "BonkEnc\encoders" folder and you're all set to encode)

Greg,

I'm getting .mp3 as the extension witch makes this very strange. I can play the files in WMP but I must have a codec installed for it.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm having the same problem. StationRipper rips Pandora and creates .mp3 files, but these .mp3 files are not recognized by itunes or by wmp. I tried using bonkenc to convert these to something playable, like Josh recommended, but that didn't work either. Is there some way that I can get StationRipper to produce .mp3 files that can be played directly in itunes?

Could you try renaming as .M4A and then play in iTunes?

Thanks,
-Greg

Greg,

I just renamed the file to .m4a and it plays in iTunes.

Yeah, that's it then. Looks like my auto-M4A detect and conversion was having a issue.

Please install this: http://www.stationripper.com/release/test.exe

Does that work?

Actually - just download the main one from http://www.stationripper.com

I have put this fix in - AND have gotten rid of the JavaScript errors.

I had the same problem but the rips were with the new Beta Smart Stationriper. Switched to the original with rip in ACC format and converted with BONCK and everything OK

Greg,

I tried both the beta and the new version and had the same results. I'm running win7 64bit. Not sure if that might be part of the problem, it seems to effect a bunch of programs.

What I have been doing is using Extension Renamer to rename the files to .m4a and using BONCK to convert to .mp3. This is a long way to get mp3s but I don't mind, I appreciate the work you're put into this great program.

I just downloaded this program to give it a test run. I was seeing this same behavior and checked the forums and found this. I installed the BonkEnc and got the dll also mentioned above. After that, I made a copy of some of the files to test Bonk with and renamed them with the m4a extension. I ran them through the encoder and output the files to a new directory. The files now open as mp3, but they play as 2 seconds of garbage. Is there something else I can try? The Station Ripper gets the files just fine, and the Encoder seems to be doing what it is supposed to.

Edit:

I downloaded and installed iTunes. i changed the extension on a few of the files to m4a and they played just fine in that app. So the files seem to be ok in that format.

After installing the iTunes, the files play in WMP after being renamed with the m4a extension. I thought about writing a little app for renamimg full directories of files, but then figured there was prolly alrady one out there. Sure enough there are lots of them out there. i used one to rename an entire directory from .mp3 to .m4a and all is good. Now that WMP plays them and I don't have to use iTunes, I'm not as depressed. Extra work, but not much.

About StationRipper:

StationRipper will allow you to "record" various internet radio stations. It will allow you to get a list of available Shoutcast stations and start recording them, creating a single MP3 file for each song the station plays.

It will also:

* Allow you to record up to 300 streams at one time.
* Buy the music and albums you are ripping.
* "Memory Recording" - It will keep track of all the songs you download, copying the final song file to your music library. If that song gets re-recorded in the future, it will skip it (so, if you end up deleting it, it won't record, bloating your collection with music you don't want).
* Get a list of Stations to record quickly and easily, via Shoutcast.
* Track the music and stations you've ripped.
* Listen to any station being recorded with a single mouse click
* Schedule when you want to allow and disallow recordings, so your bandwidth will only be hit with ripping on off hours.
* Re-launch ripping of up to 100 of the last Stations you've recorded with a single mouse click.
